Networking Help

I recently upgraded a couple of my systems from Mepis 6 to version 6.5.
I am impressed with the latest edition (Kudos to Warren and Crew).
On my desktop 6.5 even discovered my dlink windows wireless card automatically. I did not even have to mess with madwifi.
On my laptop however my wifi is not working. I am using a Microsoft (PCMCIA card MN-520) which works in almost every distro I have used (before settling on Mepis). It has worked flawlessly in Mepis lite and Mepis 6.
Does anyone have any ideas of configuring this device.
I tried setting up with mnetwork assistant.
first using dhcp and then putting in static ip, gateway and broadcast.
I am not at my computer at present but will submit a copy of my ifconfig as soon as iget home.
Any suggestions will be welcome. I am still a partial newbie but am not afraid of working in Konsole.
thanks mike

Hi Mike,
Thanks for reply.
I sat down this evening to have a look at what's going on and found out that the laptop I am installing Mepis 6.5 on (used but new to me) has a built in wireless too. It is RaLink Rt2500 which I downloaded using synaptic but still couldnt get working. ndiswrapper -l shows 'invalid driver'.
Needless to say I found the MN-520 under eth1 and struggled to get it setup under mnetwork. I eventually set it to automatic and went to internet >connections > network manager and tried connecting to MN-520. It prompted for WEP and has been working since. It's wierd in mnetwork I could not get it working using DHCP and if I used static i showed 0's for sending and receiving.
I think I am all set now though. I am going to use my MN-520 until I research this rt2500 more.

What is make and model of laptop?
rt2500 is included with Mepis -- should be recognized on ra0

Does Mepis see the card?

I would think it does.
Driver, I think, is hostap, which is included in Mepis.
