Wondering if there are new laptops out there without winmodems. That way dial up will work right out of the box on Linux. Right now I use the Linuxant drivers.
And of course a good laptop for Linux in general.
Thanks,
Carl
Most winmodems work pretty well now

...in MEPIS 6.5. If you are concerned about a particular modem on a laptop you are looking at, find out what its chipset is and check whether its mative drivers come pre-loaded (lsmod) and whether its Windows drivers are installed (ndiswrapper -l).
The question about a laptop for Linux has been posed a number of times on MepisLovers.org, and you might search that forum for the suggestions that have been made. Or just wait for Dell to do its magic...
Hope this helps=--good luck.
