can't print

for several days i have tried hard to install my lexmark optra S 1255 on Mepis 6.5 /64
but i am a newbie. kdeprint installs the printer, but test page is trash. Starting foomatic-gui from console gives out the follwing message:

root@1[Sven]# foomatic-gui
/bin/sh: /usr/bin/esd: No such file or directory
sh: /usr/sbin/lpadmin: No such file or directory
Could not set up/change the queue "1"!
Usage: /etc/init.d/cupsys {start|stop|restart|force-reload|status}
invoke-rc.d: initscript cupsys, action "reload" failed.

Any ideas?
