Hello,

i have a computer here with intel 440bx chipset. it is an Asus CUBX-E with integrated promise ata100 controller.
(2x ATA33 and 2x ATA100).

I connected one ATA100 supporting harddisk to the corresponding controller on the board (i used the right blue cable...), booted up with the live-cd and successfully installed the system. Since its the only OS on the system i choosed not to install Grub at all.

Then, I booted the machine and then: Nothing.

Just the cursor in the upper left corner and a black screen.

Hope you can help here!

Thanks,
LinuxWorld

You need GRUB. Go back to

You need GRUB. Go back to the live CD, boot it, and install GRUB to your MBR.

Welcome to Mepis!

Hi Mike,

i did that and linux starts, but my attempts to make a dualboot system is not workable. There are 4 controllers on this board (PROMISE ATA100 Controller onboard). 2 "normal ones" ata 33 and 2 "blue" ones ATA100. On the first one (the black IDE connector) i have a 10GB disk with windows2000, on the second one is a cd-rom drive. the third one has another ata100 Hdd with windows 98 and on the fourth one i plugged in another ATA100 HDD. Mepis is installed on this one. I installed grub onto that same disk into the MBR where Mepis is installed. All seems ok and menu.lst is filled with stuff..but on the next restart when i see the grub menu ( all OS´ses seem to be there..) and choose one of the window$$$ entries , then nothing happens. error. But i can boot into Mepis. All other entries made by GRUB (i used the mepis assistant) are wrong, obviously.

I installed grub onto the windows 98 HDD (the One on the third ATA100 connector) with the same result.

I hope i could make my problem clear...seems that Grub is not perfect, but noone is ;=)

do you have suggestions how to solve this?

Thank you
