Trash can

Why isn't the trash can on the desk top by default?
Not trying to be a pain or any thing but It did take me a while searching this site to even find where the stuff goes that I deleted.
At first I was thinking maybe it was permanently deleted but I wanted some thing back that I deleted so I came here and started searching. I started with deleted files and did not find what I was looking for and then I searched for recycle and found an interesting poll but not what I was looking for.
I searched for trash and I found a wiki entry on how to get the trash can icon on the desktop and was able to get the file I wanted back.
I also then found where it puts the trash.
I think a few reason why I could not find it was do to these reasons.
I am used to an icon and I have used some distros where its in the document folder for each user so every user has his or her own.

Thanks for reading my long post.

New MEPIS fan,

Amy

Trash can

For all users like me who wondered where the trash can is.. here is something for you to know.. LOL! The SOLUTION.

On the taskbar, or the dock as you would call it ( the panel on the screen) right click > Panel menu > Add an applet to the panel..

You will come up with many choices to add applications and one of it is the trash can.. WOW!

isnt MEPIS amazing?

This is why newbs & others get scared away from linux in general

Ya see This is why newbs & others get scared away from linux in general. I am a linux newb well sorta & do not get me wrong I love Mepis Linux & will continue to, but things like the trashcan should be on by default on the taskbar(dock panel) because I looked around for a while trying to find out where I had been deleting my files because my drive space was being sucked up by the deleted files that I deleted and I assumed that since they did not put a trashcan anywhere to be found that they would atleast have good mind to atleast make the files delete after we put them into the trash can and restart, but no that did not happen and then finally I found your post & again thank you, but again this is the reasons why people run from linux & I am not saying this to be a nuckle head just trying to improve & ad upon why people run from the linux world, So next time maybe the ones that create the distro can ad something as little as the trashcan. What I am saying is to just make it a little familliar & they will flock in the way of mepis because the security & instability of windows is what got me here, but I was already in linux tryout mode ever since I saw the matrix (trinity & Neo display screen) & before. I love linux because it where's no chains & I as a young mixed blackmale love the sounds of freedom in everyway shape & form, plus I am an extreme computer geek(haha) Again thanks for the tip ( Linux Holy One ) Sire I charish you, may the keys be with you! Great Tip Dude.

I'm absolutely sure that the

I'm absolutely sure that the trash can is the last thing that Linux has to conquer to be the king of the desktop.

BTW, this is not a "Linux issue", it's a MEPIS 6.x issue, I have no idea why Warren didn't put it on the desktop... from what I see on the prebeta for MEPIS 7 the trash can is there... so the last thing appears to be conquered, I guess Linux will win now all the Windows users.
