There is a caching problem between the Linux kernel & PartEd, the program that is supposed to format your USB key.
While we're waiting for the Kernel & PartEd people to fix the conflict, here is a new, fairly complex work around from Warren. He wishes it was shorter--but those of us who use the Traveler Disk are thrilled to have it.

Followed your instructions and they worked perfectly. Thanks Lance!
Now I just need to fiddle with the sync script and see if I can get it to work with thunderbird instead of kmail and maybe sync my kopete settings too

I was about to follow your instructions, but decided to try fixing it on a Mac OS X machine. Using their disk utilities, I was able to reformat the disk and stop worrying that my disk had been turned into nothing more than a keychain decoration.
