help with recording audio

hi , i make my own music , and i downloaded an audio recording and editing program called audacity , it looks awesome , but for some reason when i press record , i can scream into my mic as loud as a want when i stop the recording then play from the begining i can barely hear my self , can someone please try to help me out , much appreciated , thank you.

Also, in the switches tab of the Kmix mixer there is a switch for mic boost (+20db). Make sure that one is switched on. Most good quality microphones need the boost.

audacity has a slideer to control input volume. Look around in the app, you'll find it. Their homepage has decent info as well.
Apart from that, click the speaker icon in the taskbar and then click mixer. You can set input levels there as well.
