Ipod Nano

My granddaughter got a Nano ipod but it won't show up on the desktop when plugged in. I had to use PCLinux to get it to work. Any suggestions why my Mepis 6.5 isn't up to the task?

Not only HAL has a problem with the Nano, but the Amarok and GTKPod versions in simplymepis 6.5 have problems with the Nano as well. But it can be fixed manually:
1) Follow the link in the previous comment to correct your HAL
2) Install Amarok 1.4.6 from source
Now you will be able to mount and transfer songs to your Nano

the version of HAL, the program that recognizes and auto mount the USB devices, in MEPIS has a bug that prevents it from detecting the Nano.
