Allow separate /boot partition during installation

I will assume this forum of feedback can be used to make suggestions about Mepis.

The Mepis installation program is great, but has a single general drawback IMO. It does not allow one to choose a separate partition other than /, /home, and swap for commonly used directories when doing a custom installation to partitions. More specifically it does not allow one to specify a separate partition for /boot, which is a common action by many Linux users, including this one. I will not go into the reason many Linux users have /boot in a separate partition than /, as they are well known.

I appreciate that Mepis wants to keep most installation options really simple, with appropriate defaults, for most users. However I feel that one should also allow experience users more powerful options, and in the case I cited it is a real PITA to some that the options of installing Mepis to various partitions is so limited.

Please consider changing the installation program in future releases to allow more specific partitioning of data using custom partitioning. Of course I know that partitions can be changed after the fact by playing around with fstab and moving data, but it would be nice if this extra work were not necessary.

In particular for me I have a boot program ( System Commander ) which I like, and which allows me to boot into many multiple OSs on a single computer, and fixing separate boot partitions makes it much easier for me to setup and boot into various operating systems.

There is another thread on this already, here. It would be wiser to stick to one topic, for those wondering not to have to go wandering the various posts Eye-wink

eldiener, you had raised the topic already. If you have additional info, make use of the original thread.
