wireless network stopped working

I am using simply mepis 6.5 on a Acer Aspire 1350 laptop and For some reason my wireless network has stopped working. I can see that the PCMIA U.S. Robotics (texas instruments ACX111)network card is not being activated at startup either.
I've read through the wikki but still cant get it working.
Please can someone help me

Can you test

Some basic diagnostics:

  1. Can you put the card in another machine to see if it works there?
  2. Can you bring another wireless machine in to test the router?
  3. Can you boot with the Live CD and see if the card works there (I assume it did before)

It would surprise me if this were a software problem suddenly showing up for no reason, but maybe so...

I have the system as dual

I have the system as dual boot with Win XP & its still working with he wireless connection so its obviously a problem with mepis.
I will give it a try with the live CD but I think when i got it working originally after making changes then doing a restart so unless it will activate without a reboot the live cd option may not work.

OK, thanks

Can you paste in the output of these commands so we can see what the situation is:

lspci -v
ndiswrapper -l

And tell us how you have MEPIS Network Assistant configured. Thanks.

Did You Update Your System?

After installing Mepis, did you do a software update via Synaptic (click Reload, Mark all upgrades, Apply)? If so, whatever network settings you had may have been lost. Go into the Mepis Network Assistant and check each of the tabs and interfaces. If you make any changes on any of the screens, make sure you click the Apply button before you move to the next tab.

The ability to comfortably use a computer is directly proportional to desire to listen, learn, and experiment, and is inversely proportional to the fear, anger, and stubbornness that you show.

Yes knotify said there were

Yes knotify said there were updates available and they were done via syaptic.
I have spent ages replicating what i did before to get it working and still no luck.
The PCMIA wireless interface isn't getting activated at bootup for some reason.
Ive only enabled the wlan0 interface to be started at boot, all others are not.
I'm sure this is what i did the last time and mepis turned the interface on during bootup (its light came on), then i installed Wlassistant and found a network access point & that was everything up and running. I can't understand what ive done thats different this time.

A couple of things to

A couple of things to try:

In Synaptic, completely remove and then reinstall mepis-network in the same session. Then open a Konsole window, switch to root with su, and type

rmmod acx
rmmod ndiswrapper
modprobe ndiswrapper

if the first command returns an error, that's OK, we are just ensuring the native acx driver can't intefere with ndiswrapper. Hopefully this will now have your device working--try the command

ifconfig -a

to see what interfaces are up, then

iwlist wlan0 scan

to see if wifi networks are detected.

If this works, you should edit the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist file as root and add the line

blacklist acx

This keeps Mepis from loading it at boot.
