good but still a few issues (plug-n-play, tap-and-drag, hibernate)

I have installed Mepis 6.5 successfully. Much works. However, I need to resolve a few more things.
One is usb plug-n-play. I had to include the boot options noapic and nolapic or the system would not boot. Now, I plug in an sd card reader or thumb drive and they do not auto mount. Is there a connection? What can I do to mount these devices?
I also cannot get my Synaptic touchpad to use tap-and-drag. I used System-Settings-Peripherals-Touch pad-(General-touchpad on)-(Tapping-enable tapping-enable faster tapping). So, touchpad works. It allows tapping. All is quick and responsive. Love the multifinger tapping. But I am used to using double-tap-and-drag on the touchpad to emulate a mouse click-and-drag. How can I enable this?
I do not see how to get my notebook to hibernate?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I followed it and my usb mount for me with icons on the desktop without being plugged in at startup. Great guide.
Now, I need to try my firewire card.

I think if you search for touchpad over at mepislovers.org, there are some solutions for enabling tap & drag.
you are right

So sorry. You are quite right. I actually found it a bit ago. I found a great suggestion to add a very truncated entry in the xorg.config (if I recall correctly) suggested someone on the mepis forum found in an ubuntu forum. Worked great.
I did not update this thread because i was not getting any responses. I asked some more specific questions to other threads and heard some good information.
Thanks so much for helping.
Plug-n-play I have half working. Through another thread, I updated a configuration file which allows for usb to generate a desktop icon, however that works only for about 5 minutes after boot up or after all usb devices are removed.
Hibernating we as still working on.

It seems that my system recognizes my sd reader and my expressCard firewire card if they are inserted before the computer is turned on. Once the system is booted up, you can remove and reinsert them and the system acknowledges them. But if you do not have them inserted before powering up, it will not recognize them.
Is there a setting I can use to resolve this? Is there at least a command or tool that will scan the system to find them?
