I am trying to install Mepis for the first time and I am getting this error. Can someone tell me what the problem is ? Please note that I am attempting to install this on a system which is using a SCSI hard drive. I am wondering if that could be the problem.
Kernel Panic - not syncing : VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
Thanks.

scsi no problem

scsi should be no problem, as scsi is well supported.
however when grub is looking for the root partition it is looking on the first partition on the first drive.
Is there where you have installed Mepis?
If yes, return to Jim above.
If no, where have you installed it?
When are you getting that error?

What version of SimplyMEPIS do you have, and where did the CD come from? If you downloaded it, did you confirm the download was OK, and that the burn to CD was also OK?
These Wiki pages may help:

If you're getting that kind of thing booting into the LiveCD, it's probably a bad download or a bad burn to CD (the CD contains errors).
Or, are you getting that during the install process somewhere along the way?
IOW, does the LiveCD boot OK?
I don't know a lot about this kind of thing. But, when I've seen those kinds of errors (kernel panic, unable to mount root FS) when trying to boot the CD, a bad CD has been the cause.
