A recent question was "How do i choose between vesa and nvidia at install?"
These are all ways of showing the pictures on the computer and the best one to choose depends on your video card.

X.org : X.org are free and open source drivers written by the X.org development teams. Some of these drivers provide limited, or fully functional OpenGL acceleration, as well as support for AIGLX, which is needed for Beryl to work. Video chips with known working AIGLX drivers are; Radeon 7x00 series, 8x00 series, 9x00 series, and the x300-x800 series; Intel Extreme Graphics and Extreme Graphics 2. Some video chipsets support Direct Rendering without full OpenGL acceleration, such as Trident CyberBlade and S3 Savage
Nvidia Glx : These are non-free drivers from Nvidia that provide support for Direct Rendering and OpenGL acceleration. These drivers support AIGLX which is needed for Beryl. Supported cards are the Geforce FX series, Geforce 6 series, Geforce 7 series, and Geforce 8 series.
Nvidia Glx Legacy 96 : These are non-free drivers from Nvidia that provide support for Direct Rendering and OpenGL acceleration. These drivers support AIGLX which is needed for Beryl. Supported cards are the Geforce 2MX series, Geforce 3 Series, and Geforce 4 Series. Geforce 2 non-MX editions are not supported.
Nvidia Glx Legacy 72 : These are non-free drivers from Nvidia that provide support for Direct Rendering and OpenGL acceleration. These drivers do not support AIGLX. Beryl will not work on these graphics cards. Supported cards are Riva TNT, Geforce series, and Geforce 2 series.
FGLRX : FireGlide and Radeon X Driver : These are non-free drivers from AMD/ATI that provide support for Direct Rendering and OpenGL acceleration. These drivers do not support AIGLX. Beryl will currently not work on these graphics cards. Supported cards are Radeon series above 9500 in the 9x00 lineup; x300-x800 series; and x1100-x1900 series.
FGLRX 28 : FireGlide and Radeon X Driver : : These are non-free drivers from AMD/ATI that provide support for Direct Rendering and OpenGL acceleration. These drivers do not support AIGLX. Beryl will currently not work on these graphics cards. The Radeon 8500-9200 series are supported on the Catalyst 8.28 driver set.
Vesa : This is a frame buffer only mode. No 3D or Direct Acceleration is available. This mode will generally work on all but the most exotic hardware. It is very slow, and response time will not be optimal.
