Pcchips HSP56 Micromodem

Hi all:
I just installed Point and Click Linux 2004 on my computer. Linux is not redognizing my Pcchips HSP56 Micromodem. When I query the modem I get a error message can not find/dev/modem. Here is listing of the same modem with Windows xp.

this is a book with a old mepis in it.
you might do better with a newer Mepis version, but others may have this modem working on particular versions - the newest and greatest may not be best
