After the CD boots it is unable to find the CD drive, it is a normal IDE drive on a Intel 945 MOBO, is there a workaround?

Boots ok on my Toshiba Satellite laptop and I have started the install. Smiling

Version 6.9.51prebeta

I got it installed on the Satellite and no wireless driver is installed RT2500-pci, SAMBA is not working proper on the wired network, I can see my Mepis 6.5 desktop but can not see the pre 7.0 laptop, I get a time-out, I use remote printer, so unable to check that.

Debian don't do very good job configuring things, Warren has his work cut out for him to make this OS usable.

Amarok works ok, Intel 855 graphics the picture is washed out on DVD playback and photo viewing, this is a problem with Etch and has been fixed with Sid, also video is better with Debian Edu, which is Etch, go figure.

But Debian multimedia normally works swell, it's the networking, wifi, copy, scan and printing that Debian has problems with.

Time to work the MEPIS magic

This kernel is gonna need the Magic touch.

In my case, RealTek RTL8180 PCMCIA wireless NIC is not detected as it was with v6.5.

There's a reason this is called a PRE-beta.

This oughtta keep Warren occupied for a while.

Magic is working here

Im having no problems on an old MSI-k7266, all works so far as expected no surprises. Running the 32 bit version a course, but this board has been mysterious at times in past so i expect good things from 7.0 . I see it as a good omen & look forward to sayin bye to buntu.

Couple of interesting things about this pre-beta is nano wasn't installed by default but module-assistant & kernel headers i think were. So testers may have to make some modules to get along with the show. My hardware isn't wireless or in any way exotic so don't think i will be doing that, but who knows.

Hi Guys

Gave this a quick spin (and have not left yet), very impressed.
Its running great on my Dell Dimension 9200 dual core.

Etch wont install as it cant load the dvd drive, but mepis installed fine.
Have 8600GTS, so had to select vesa at original boot. else i got blank screen on livecd.
Once install nvidia-glx installed 3d perfectly. had to tweak to 1920x1200.

Had to run anyany.. patch to get vmwareplayer running, but it runs great.

Things are looking good for you guys, i think i will leave this one installed for now, with mint cassandra.

PS
Kubuntu hangs on running livecd, as does madriva, pclinuxos, so great to have another distro that installs decently and most thing work great off the bat, even in beta state.

I found the mepis based on dapper drake way to dated, but it looks like things are back on track.

Well done to all the devs, great work Eye-wink

Camstream problem

Been playing with pre-beta and web cam since the 2.6.22 kernel is default & i had read somewhere new video 4 linux drivers would be in it, and they are but camstream gives me a segfault & it don,t work. None of the other web cam apps work either though go figure.

But surprise of surprises while checking kooka on a canon scanner that has never worked in linux i was shocked to see kooka fire up this old Ezonics ezcam-usb camera , clicked prescan and there was my ugly mug. Itm wont stream video but when you hit scan or prescan it takes a shot. Bizzarr huh any one seen this before?

Downloaded source for camstream & thought i would try compiling it but ./configure returns an error about libqt3-mt being non multi threaded or misnamed & that it will not compile without a multi=threaded package. When it appears to be installed properly and is libqt3-mt witch is suppose to be multi-threaded right OTBox. If any one has a clue yell, Google hasn't been much help.....
