Fresh Install Problem
Posts: 29
Installed 6.9.51_64 Yesterday. Chose option to use all sda and preserve home partition. Works great;have sound again. My problem is that sdb1 shows no data. sdb1 is used mainly for videos and backup but there were acouple of video files that I did not have a back up for. Is there any way of recovering these files?

Thanks for your help. It looks like I've got a file permissions problem. Kwikdisk solved the problem.

Checked back to the file manager
and now the files show up on sdb1 in all their glory. Go figure.

You only needed to mount sdb1....using kdf

The Mepis default is NOT to mount partitions that are not part of that Mepis installation. Use kwikdisk / kdiskfree (the actual package name is kdf) to mount the partitions that you need to have available.

For recovery (if that's really the situation you're dealing with) use TestDisk ( http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk ).
Did you actually blow-away the contents of /dev/sdb1 at install time?
I'm thinking that you probably don't have the /dev/sdb1 partition mounted to allow access to the contents; in which case, it's just going to look empty when you open the mountpoint.
Before you do anything you can't undo, try exploring a bit with kwikdisk, to see if your problem has a simple solution.
How's my posting?
