Can't Get New Kernel to Load

Trying to run the new 6.9.51 live cd to run but my computer fails to load the new kernel this is what I get;
ata2.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2 frozen
ata2.00: cmd a/0/01: 00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:/a0tag 0 cdb 0x5a data 128 in
if I wait this will keep repeating.I've tried in default on down to failsafe. In failsafe I got essentially the same except it said;ata2.00 set up for MWDMA2.Itried the cheat codes noapic nolapic irqpoll, none of which helped.
I know the cd is ok,because I tried it on another computer with a new Biostar mainboard with an AMD Sempron 3000+ and everything worked great.I have an older box with a Intel Celeron 2.3hz Brookdale in it.
I really liked what I saw on the MEPIS 7.0 prebeta, and would like to get it to work.Is my box just too old?Any help you all can give me will be greatly appreciated.
BTW,it was almost scary how well this prebeta works,I think Warren deserves a big thumbs up on this version.Thanksin advance for your help,Wayne.

You Can't Install Software From The Live CD

Wayne, if you're running from the Live CD, then you cannot load any other software. You must INSTALL the version of Mepis before you can update/upgrade/add software.

Jon

The ability to comfortably use a computer is directly proportional to desire to listen, learn, and experiment, and is inversely proportional to the fear, anger, and stubbornness that you show.

Jon, Thanks for the reply,I

Jon,
Thanks for the reply,I wasn't trying to download software,I'm trying to get the SM 6.9.51 live cd to boot up.In verbose booting that's where I get the ata2.00 exception, right after "installing the kernel".
Even in SM 6.5.02 this computer doesn't go to straight to boot up.I get "you have passed an undefined video mode" and three options;return key-to go back, space bar to proceed,or wait 30 seconds.I beleive I've read this is an Intel thing.I was wondering if maybe this old Intel processor just can't load the new kernel, and if anyone knew a work-around where I could get it to boot. Thanks again,Wayne.

The prebeta does not yet

The prebeta does not yet have all kernel modules included. I have heard of more issues with sata drives, so you will probably have to wait for the next version.

Newbie or not Newbie, there's always a question

I have read that SM 6.9.51

I have read that SM 6.9.51 is having issues reading IDE drives as Sata.It appears that may be my problem,as I have a IDE drive. Thanks for the reply carlops, now I will wait patiently for the next version. Thanks again,Wayne.

kernel 2.6.22

It's definitely something related to the kernel 2.6.22.
I've got the same error message when trying to install Mepis (last beta), OpenSuSE (10.3beta) and Sabayon (3.4e).
All three distros are using the same kernel.

Suse is a beta, MEPIS is a

Suse is a beta, MEPIS is a prebeta. 2 out of 3 are not to be considered stable....

Sent a report to

Sent a report to ,hoping it's something that can be corrected, and not in my box.Setting back, patiently waiting for the beta. Will give that a try when it comes out.

No Change Yet

Just downloaded, burned, and tried to boot beta5,still won't boot.Tried beta3 and beta4,when they came out also.
Thinking about trying to boot "fromiso",when I get it figured out,and if you think that will help.Sorry I still don't have any good news to report.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
