Strange date on files
Posts: 1
New observation:
Today I took a closer look at events. I find that:
1- The bookmark file from the File Store box was imported, but appended to my existing bookmark file in Mepis Firefox.
2- I first copied the file from the File Store box into Mepis into a folder in my /home directory called "Pass". Mepis sees the file modified date both on the File Store box and in this Pass folder as 1969-12-31.
3- When I delete the existing bookmark file and the backup bookmark file from the Firefox profile folder, and then import the bookmark from the Pass folder and open and close Firefox, Mepis then shows the bookmark folder with a modified date of (today's date).
I'm still curious about this "intermediate" labeling of the file's modified date as 1969-12-31, even though when actually used and written again by Firefox the correct date is shown.
------------
I am a relative noob to Mepis. I have a Windows workgroup network at home, with a PC dedicated to file storage and shared among my family of users. The Mepis PC is connected to that network (via ethernet), and can see the files on the File Store PC that are allowed to be shared.
Today, I wanted to pass my large Firefox bookmark file to Mepis. I copied it from my XP workstation to the File Store box, and then tried to import the bookmark file into Firefox on the Mepis PC. It would not import - The last bookmark file stayed loaded. When I check file details, I noticed that Mepis shows the date of the bookmark file on the File Store box as 1969-12-31 @ 7:00pm. This file shows the correct date of 2007-8-9 when viewed from the File Store box, and from my XP workstation.
What causes this date error, and how to correct it?
My Mepis is 6.5 and has all current updates installed.
Thanks in advance.
I can't say what's causing

I can't say what's causing your date issue, but would tend to assume something non-standard in the windows world (again).
Have you tried:
remotely accessing the file from your Linux box
copying the file to a file of a slightly different name
copying the resulting file to the Linux box
copying the local file back to a file having the original file name
?
