Internet Service Providers

I would like to find an ISP that will let me connect to the internet with a modem while on simply MEPIS. Any reply for my
future reference welcome.

P.S. I use a Lucent Winmodem. It works!

What area?

If you happen to be somewhere around L.A., there's a non-profit ISP offering DSL or dial-up for a low price. It works fine with Mepis with no special configuration or software.

Netzero or Juno?

I believe Netzero and Juno both offer a .deb file for Linspire which would probably work in Mepis ... you need to pay $9.95/month, though --- if you just try the 10 hours/month free plan you will not be able to download the file.
Try searching in http://ubuntuforums.org on Netzero to see how it works for Ubuntu.

This link says that you can just use Kppp - you don't need the proprietary software.
