Enabling Bluetooth ... as a modem
Posts: 56
Wotcha playmates,
I would like to be able to use my Erricson K810 as a modem for my laptop. I've been told that Orange network will let me have broadband for free. So, does this mean I can use the phone as a modem? If so, do I have to enable Bluetooth ... the one I seem to have is called KBluetoothD. Its on my system but it simply tells me there is no adapter ... hmmm, sounds ominous ... what is the adapter - the phone?
... Hey, guess what ... its raining ... again!
a bluetooth bit!?

Thanks drlizau,
what is the bluetooth bit? Is it something I can buy over here in the soggy country? Once it is in will KbluetoothD pick it up? ... in other words is it the missing adapter?
Questions, questions, questions ... so many questions.
... and what does drlizau mean? ...(you don't have to answer that one).

The igadget one is only windows compatible ... but I presume I should be able to find one that is Linux happy?
... When did you get yours from aldi? If it wasn't too long ago I might be able to get one from mine.
I take it that the dongle is the "adapter" that KbluetoothD is talking about?
I have a dongle ... but not sdpd!

... I've gone and got myself a bluetooth dongle - plugged it into an USB port - switched on KbluetoothD ... but it tells me that the dongle will not work unless I run sdpd first ... so I look for it ... but its not there - or in synaptic!
... so where is it? What is it? Is sdpd the answer to all my prayers? ... or what!
I've had a thought ...

... why do I need bluetooth? Can't I just plug the phone into the laptop using the usb connection? Will the phone still act as a modem to the laptop? If so then how do I get it to act as a modem?

to talk to your phone you need a bluetooth bit on the laptop end.
i've got one which fits in a usb port.
Send the rain over here, we'd like some.
