Mepis 7 beta1 upgrade problems

In synaptic, I did the recommended upgrades, but it automatically removed a lot of programs I need. Below is the Synaptic History for that day. A lot of other programs I tried to install will not install because files such as libgnomeui are dependencies, and synaptic refuses to install the dependencies. It's a catch-22 ! What to do?

A beta is a test environment

I have had no such problems at all with upgrades; neither in 32 and 64bit versions of beta2. Whenever a new beta appears do a clean install of the new one. Keep beta versions as standard as possible.

The only package being held back in Synaptic is the new mepis-install [v6.9.63], (overwrite conflict) and Warren is well aware of that. The current mepis-install-6.0 does its job though.

btw: this weekend you'll probably get a shot at beta3

Upgrade conflicts

I also had the problems. I have installed packages to the default packages since installing beta 1 (ie. mysql-admin) and some of those packages will be uninstalled if I allow the upgrade. I am currently at work and not in front of my Mepis machine, but I believe the packages that would force the upgrade were the gtk and/or kmplayer packages. Since these packages are Mepis packages, the problem is not with Etch. I just figured to wait it out as the betas are development.

Warren is in the middle of upgrading some gtk components. This may unforseeably break gtk apps.

The request is to send a mail to dev-at-mepis.org if you find you can no longer install some gtk application. Please be specific. Give the exact name of the package and the errors / dependency issues you get.
