Request for JAMin or similar -- Parametric EQ, Spectrum Analyzer
Posts: 4
I would like software for Parametric Equalization and Spectrum Analysis.
I am interested in building open-baffle speakers with wide-band drivers and such designs benefit from equalization.
I know that JAMin provides this functionality although I have never used JAMin.

A while back I tried to get JAMin installed and never succeeded.
JAMin depends upon ALSA, JACK Audio Server, GTK+ version 2, Glib, Pango, ATK, libsndfile, FFTW, LADSPA, SWH Plugins.
I would be happy with any other project that performs Parametric Equalization and Spectrum Analysis if anybody knows of something better or easier to install.
I could even be moderately happy with a simple Graphic Equalizer with a few more bands than the 6 or so I have seen in some other packages.
For those who do not know.
A Parametric Equalizer allows adjusting the gain of a particular frequency. It is similar to a graphic equalizer, but the center frequency can be set arbitrarily and there is also control of the nearby frequencies that are affected(the bandwidth that gain is applied to).
The Spectrum Analyzer shows the real-time display of the strength of each frequency. Such a tool is useful in conjunction with a white or pink noise generator for determining how to equalize a sound system.
Jamin is in the debian etch

Jamin is in the debian etch repositories and installs easily in my Mepis 3.4-3 (continuously upgraded using etch the etch repos).
More importantly, Jamin also installs easily from Synaptic in the new Mepis 7.0 beta 3 (technically 6.9.80) and should do so when 7.0 final comes out. Meanwhile, beta 3 is pretty stable, and using the aufs option on the boot menu you can even install and try out Jamin right from the LiveCD. It won't be saved at reboot that way, but it's a safe way to try it out.
