Updating GLIBC

Posts: 24

I'm running MEPIS 6.5 32 bit. I am in need of at least glibc 2.4 (for my development use with jmonkeyengine), and was wondering if there are any repositories compatible for use with MEPIS to update this. I'm still looking into what needs to be done, so pardon my ignorance regarding the subject.

If MEPIS 7.0 is going to have an updated glibc version, I guess I can wait...but I need it ASAP so I can continue development - and it looks like there's no real estimated date for 7.0 final release.

Thanks in advance!

GLIBC

Not an authority in this department but i can point you to the glibc-doc thats in 6.5 repos , it's suppose to have the complete changelog & man pages till some thing better answers your question.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone have any ideas? This really is important, and if I have to, I'll just swap over to another distro (as I see the glibc is still the same in the upcoming release).

Thanks.

As far as the estimated date

Warren is speaking in Ohio on Sept. 29, and has said that he wants Final out by then.

Try posting your question on mepislovers.org and see if anyone there can help.

I hope this helps.

I hope this helps. Download:

* glibc_2.4.orig.tar.gz (14.5 MiB)
* glibc_2.4-1ubuntu12.diff.gz (738.0 KiB)
* glibc_2.4-1ubuntu12.dsc (2.1 KiB)

Thanks for the response! I

Thanks for the response!

I attempted that, and ran pbuilder to check it all etc, but got "Does not satisfy version, not trying." ;_;

Bump? Still in need. I tried out PCLinuxOS, because it had version 2.4, but didn't work well on my system, at least with the video resolutions...

I kind of do all my work on this laptop, so just "trying" it and installing is not an option: need something that'll definitely work.

If anyone could help, that'd be awesome!

The older version is in

The older version is in etch--and until they upgrade it, that's where it sticks. That said, I have a test version of 7.0 upgraded to the sid repos and it seems pretty stable.

I switched over to using

I switched over to using Mandriva to fix this problem. The only difference now is that I have to install my codecs manually, and I had to figure out the repos. Oh, and Japanese input works!

Mepis really needs a network manager that lists all of the available wireless networks, similar to Mandriva, Kubuntu, and a few of the other distros I tried in my search for updated GLIBC. This was something that pushed one of my friends to whom I suggested Mepis towards other distros.

Take it easy.

There IS a networkmanager

MEPIS does have it, Knetworkmanager, same as Kubuntu. And moreover, you can install Wicd (http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/Wicd).

Newbie or not Newbie, there's always a question
