Clam AV Problems

After installing Mepis 6.5, Clam AV did not work.
I used Synaptic to update Clam AV.
When I try to update using Clam AV I get
Can't change directory to /root/.klamav/database
When I click on Virus Browse tab, Mepis locks up
and I get message:
Loading...KlamAV 0%
I also keep getting:
Update Process died unexpectedly, can't get rid of it.
I thought AV was supposed to be ready to run and and update,
what a pain in the bud !
Can anyone help me to get Clam AV actually run ?

Hi Alex2000,
When you updated clam Av in synaptic did you update Klamav as well. If both are updated I would say it has become corrupted somehow you could remove both from synaptic and install again to see if it cures problem.
If you still cannot cure problem you could use the free Avast instead I use this one on Mepis and I personally prefer it.
