Kernel drivers for RTL 8180/8185 wireless cards not loaded

Hi,

I've been trying v7 since beta 2 and I haven't been able to get the Netgear MA521 (RTL8180L chipset) wireless card in my Dell Latitude L400 to work. I've been using Mepis since 6.0.

I recently e-mailed DEV thinking that it was a problem with NDISWRAPPER wrongly detecting the card as a netr33x, but I've checked and 6.5 does too. If I type ndiswrapper -l, it shows

..
netr33x: driver installed device (10EC:8180) present ,but on 6.5 it also says (alternate driver: r818x)
..

I have two other Netgear wireless cards, one USB - the MA401 and MA101. Both used to work in 6.0 and 6.5, but no longer work in 7.0 betas 2 to 4.

The hardware kernel driver for RTL 8180/5 wireless chipsets is not loaded.

Tried a work around to force to the kernel to load the module at boot time, i.e. I added the line rtl8187 to /etc/modules ,but my wireless card still does not work - out of ideas - anyone?

Still not working with Beta 5

which is a disappointment.

Does Antix have better support for older wireless 'B' cards?

Looks like I will have to stick Mepis 6.5

Wondering if you still have a 6.5 partition going , if so do a lsmod in it to see what module is loaded & works. Then do a lsmod in 7.0 bx to compare the drivers, if its not the same do a modprobe rlt_81xx (whatever it is) to load it & see if it works. Usually the module will be listed similar to example. Maybe you just didnt use the right syntax or module. Good luck!
