This looks a little bit

This looks a little bit XP-ish to me... but on the bright side it might be easier to use...

..don't really care...

Maybe it's nice for new users. Maybe it could be added as an optional choice, but certainly not as a replacement for the current menu style. I prefer the current K-menu style. Having a choice is OK, but not a replacement for K-menu that mimics the XP setup.

Any menu would be better

Any menu would be better than the one that comes with Mepis, it is very confusing for new users + it is poorly organized.
if you whant to keep the one that is actually in use please remove the double entries.
take a look at kubuntu Menu it is simple, user friendly.
simpler and friendly is not so bad Eye-wink

No thanks..........

Hi frank,

Well, you're entitled to have your opinion on that, of course.
There are no (obvious) double entries on my 7.0 beta menu-system. Except for the choice of "Applications" which is a 'Debian feature'...Smiling. Doesn't bother me at all.

I am well aware of the limited menu choices in Kubuntu.
No thanks, I have been betatesting Kubuntu for a long time, and I gave up on it. Mepis is the Debian-KDE distro that Kubuntu should have been.

"Simple and friendly is not so bad"; sure, I agree. But oversimplification, dumbing down and XP-mimicking, just for the sake of 'convincing new users' isn't.

That's my 2 cents.

::: shrug :::

Sorry if this comes-off as being overly-gruff, but I'm typing under the influence of a migraine.

As an option, it might be worth considering; however, certainly not as replacement for the current default structure and arrangement of the KDE menu.

Besides the fact that I'm not a fan of replacing whole chunks of KDE for no reason, I don't need a pacifier for windoze refugees, and I'd rather not have somebody else dictate to me that MY default installation of KDE has to look more like xp, vista or a mac, simply because they happen to think it is "nicer." An opposing opinion, such as my own, would not use the work "nice" to describe tastymenu.

Simpler?
"Simpler" usually--particularly in today's day and age--means less information conveyed to the user. Less utility. That's what Gnome is for, if you don't mind my saying so.

Nicer?
In what way? I can configure my K Menu in any way I want (were I so inclined) to approach anybody's definition of "nice." The difference is that I don't have to. It's already logically arranged for me.

Friendly?
I'm sorry if some take this offensively, but it really has to be said: "Friendly" has become *the* euphemism for "insipid" in the new century.

Kubuntu:
Has, IMHO, some serious issues with it--particularly the dumbing-down it gets at the hands of the Shuttleworth folks. I don't need dumb. I need access to my GUI apps in the way that *I* want it when I'm using a GUI.

It may also interest you to know that, if you like Kubuntu better than you do SimplyMEPIS...well, the recommendation should be obvious.

Screen Real Estate:
The thing takes up too much of it.

It's never productive to tell people to do things your way just because that would make you feel more "at home" or "warm-n-fuzzy" or ...whatever.

This is certainly best addressed via the "customize it yourself" approach. After all, it *is* your computer. (The beauty of Linux is that you *can* customize it to your heart's content. You can't do *that* with windoze, can you?) Use Menu Editor to make your K Menu what you want it to be and save the changes to /etc/skel/, to be applied to all new user accounts; or write a theme that can be installed and applied with a click. (You might find some worthwhile ideas over at kde-look.org)

Now, *THAT* would be productive.

Anyway, I'm off to look for some Darvocet, or something a bit more effective working the edges off this headache.

what about using kbfx silk?

what about using kbfx silk? it seems like an option.

@ golden45 I like it but I

@ golden45
I like it but I bet you that they will say that it looks like vista.

@ EnigmaOne sorry if I made your

sorry if I made your migraine worst Smiling it was not my intention, some times I sound rude of ofencive but English is my second language.

first I think that the sub-menu applications should not exist is confusing.

second I do not see the need of having an sub-menu on almost every menu called "more Applications" why not display the entire content at once lets say if I go to graphigs that's it. when you install some new software is hard to find it you never know were it landed if it landed at all at the menu.

other thing it is very hard to give support over the phone to some one,I was trying to help a friend to solve a problem she got lost in the menus so fast.

Sorry, I LOVE Mepis Smiling

One more thing since I have your attention the installer for the Graphic card is not working with my video card ( nvidia gorce 7900 ) when I use the mepis X-window assistant I end up with a black screen.

I know i can fix the xorg to make it work, but it would be nice it works automatically. and please is not me trying to make me feel as you said ""at home" or "warm-n-fuzzy" " Smiling
have a pleasant evening
And thank you so very much for all your hard work
Frank

You can also take a look at Spanish Wiki... unfortunatelly the Wikis in other language than English didn't get many edits lately.
