launching programs in Mepis 7

I have never has trouble before doing this.

I installed Google Earth, Gmailfs, and Gatos from synaptic and can't get any of them to work on Mepis7 beta 4. I don't see them in the menu after install. I don't seem to see them in usr/bin/.... which is what I normally do to set up the menu.

Any help in the right direction would be appreciated.

Also, is gatos a program in it's self?
Or does it only run on commands.

No expert here!
Thanks Carl

Look in /opt

I know Google Earth is installed there, and the others may be as well.

I am not sure if the command

update-menus

covers installations there, but if not you can always add them manually to KMenu by right-clicking the KMenu/MEPIS menu logo and selecting Menu Editor.

One trick is to try and start the program from Konsole, then use tab completion; some programs executables are named strangely...For example, for Google Earth one would type "goo", then hit the tab key twice and one of the choices would be "googleearth". You could also look at the installed files tab in Synaptic to see where the launcher scripts were installed, or the .desktop launcher files were installed.
