Mepis LiveCD won't boot
Posts: 4
Hi,
I'm new to the linux community, but I have some basic knowledge of the kernel from using it on my friend's computer. I downloaded a mepis livecd (7 beta 4) and tried to run it on my Toshiba Satellite A200. I got the following errors:
failed to allocate mem source
buffer error on device srQ; logical block 48158
Splashy Error: timeout occurred while waiting for a message on the splashy sochet
Buffer I/O error on device Srq, logical block
SQUASHIS error: unable to read page block 455a7d6, size 68e4
end_request I/O error on device Sr0 logical block 580834
\usr\share\debcont\frontal line 6\7\8; ase = command not found
SQUASHFS error: unable to read fragment cache block
I'm pretty much baffled by this - I know I can run livecd's through my hardware because I've run a gparted liveCD and successfully partitioned by HD with it.
Help please
Thanks,
Claire
I don't think its a problem

I don't think its a problem with the bootloader. I'm freezing inside the splashy screen and I'm having the same problem with other Linux OSs. Any idea about how to help that?
Thanks,
Claire

Yes, give this a try, boot

Yes, give this a try, boot the cd, at the grub menu use the arrow keys and the backspace key to remove "splash" from the boot syntax.
You're not the only one that has had a problem with splashy, if this works for you and you deside to do the install, just edit out "splash" from the /boot/grub/menu.lst.

Removing splashy from the syntax did not work. The splashy blue screen did not come up but I got the exact same errors. Any other suggestion? Thank You!

I will say that what I'm seeing in your errors, tells me that you have a bad cd, but if that cd works on other computers then I have no idea what the problem is.
I'm running the beta on 2 laptops and 3 desktops and I'm not having any boot problems at all. Sorry I can't help more.

Hello Claire , a thought about your problem made me wonder if you are using regular cd-r or cd-r-r? I have been around the block on this issue a couple of times because cd rewriteable disks can cause all kinds of strange errors on some cdroms. In any case i would reburn again as slow as your writer will handle using a cd-r disk.
Because like Jimmy i think you may have a bad burn. And i think its worth a try just in case... Good luck!

To me it looks like you may be getting cd read errors, take a look at this page and see if you can see something that will help: www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/Installation_Troubleshooting_and_Tips
