Santa Rosa MacBook Pro Support - Just How Good?
I can't help but notice during my occasional distrowatch scan Mepis beta releases comments stating this release is designed to 'run side-by-side with OSX on Apple/Mac hardware'.
How well will this release support the new Santa Rosa MacBook Pros? I'm finding even common WinXP utils are often lacking in Santa Rosa support. That's what I get for going bleeding edge on the hardware front...and one that runs super hot as it is with full driver support. ): How well will this release support power states and fan and voltage control, et al.?
Your release comments have obviously peaked my curiosity. If things look promising I may very well try Mepis again for the first time since '04. (: I'm a Vectorite myself, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to turn it into a proper laptop install, much less deal with the hardware challenge. I have high hope this SimplyMepis release will be my panacea for fully-configed native linux on the SR MBP. :^D
Thanks,
DrCR

I know that actually Warren develops MEPIS on a Mac but sorry I don't have one so I never tried it on a Mac.

I tested Mepis 6.0 and 6.5 Livecd on Mactel. It ran perfectly.
No, I did not test Mepos 7.0betas as I do not intend ever to buy a MacTel or any other Mac.

I'd like to take a mac for a spin with Mepis

I do not have any particular fondness for macs and especially not their one button mouse, but I'm curious and if I had the chance and the money, I'd buy a macbook and dual boot it with Mepis linux if I knew it would work well. Of course, Mepis would have the lions share of the hard disk.
After hearing Warren say he has the option to run Linux, Mac and windows (through vmware), I thought, yeah, that would be kinda useful.

When you run Linux on a MAC they work just like a PC and you can use any mouse you want, I use a 3-button wheel mouse on my iMAC-333 running Debian Etch.

Are you kidding?
Have you see the prices on full-blown (not just throttle body kludged) fuel injection systems?
