I can't play DVDs on Mepis and I have all of the Libdvd things installed

OK I have:

Libdvdcss2

Libdvdplay0

Libdvdnav4

Libdvdread3

These are all installed I checked synaptic and it says that they are all there. Aren't these the Libdvds that I am supposed to have? To play the DVDs I try to use Mplayer. I go to DVD-->Play and it just says player xine not running. OK so I set the default to the Mplayer and it says Mplayer not running. I just try GStreamer for the heck of it and same thing. Am I using the wrong media player? If anyone has any ideas that would be great. Mepis is a great Linux distro and I am always looking forward to learning new things about it Smiling.

Also: Would gxine media player by any chance work? When I searched libdvd on synaptic that was one of the things that came up. Anways, thanks in advance Smiling.

I always remove KMplayer and install Kaffeine and it's working great for me while using beta5.

Install libxine1-ffmpeg

Make sure you have libxine1-ffmpeg installed:

libxine1-ffmpeg

it replaces the libxine-extracodecs

summary: mpeg related plugins for libxine1
version: 1.1.7-3mepis1

description
This package contains plugins for the xine video/media player engine, which are necessary to decode mpeg based codecs. Among them, this package includes the the ffmpeg input plugin for xine, which enables xine-based players a large variety of modern audio and video codecs. . You most probably want to install this package.

conflicts: libxine-extracodecs (<< 1.1.3-1)

I always use Xine

It handles DVD menus but mplayer doesn't (last time I looked)

xine-ui should show up in your package manager of choice.
