:? only Konqueror has non-local access

I just installed Mepis32 (6.9 beta 5, i think) and all is well, EXCEPT, the only application that gets internet access is Konqueror. All other apps (eg synaptic, firefox etc) only have access to the local network.
The network is a D-link adsl router connected to a Linksys WRT54G that does all the DHCP. Mepis is running on a HP laptop connected to an ethernet port on the Linksys - all other computers connected to the same cable function normally as does the HP when in windows.
I tried firewall, dns settings (setting the dns to 10.1.1.1 -the dlink router- speeded up net access, but that's all) etc, in fact I've been banging my head against this for a couple of hours....
help, pretty please....

I solved the problem bu inserting my ISP's (iHug,NZ) DNS servers manually - the only problem is that network assistant keeps loosing the setting. I'm still not sure why when it was set to auto discover only konqueror got the DNS passed correctly. Weird... not as weird as my sound becoming active only after I plugged in Apple's Aluminium keyboard. The Joys of Beta, I guess,

Try setting your DNS to 4.2.2.1 to see what effect that has on the situation.
