Hi all, is there a planned date to release Mepis 7.0 ?

Warren said that he's going to travel couple of weeks so I guess that will wait. Also, it's probably going to be released on a "when is ready" basis.

I think it should be at least as good as 6.5 before it goes final, don't you?

If anyone ask for a date, why you joke?
I would ask for the same question.
But I ask: What is the actual progress of the final release, after 5 betas?

From the last announcement I got the feeling that this is the last beta, there will be an RC (release candidate) and if there are big problems to be fixed is going to be a second RC and so on, until Warren decides to call it "final".

Sorry if I didn't asked samething new.
Simple I was looking if mepis could be ready before the 27/10 because in Italy there's going to be the Linux Day and i woulded like to show and distribute Mepis 7.0.
I also would like to help more like beta tester but I'm just to busy organizing this event.
Thanks.

Yes, that is too bad...

Yes, that is too bad, but SimplyMEPIS 6.5.02 is very good(MEPIS 6.0 & 6.5 are the most usable distros I know), I passed it out at LinuxWorld SF 2007 and it was very well received.
It is not MEPIS fault that 7.0 is not ready, users want the newest applications and those applications have bugs that need to be fixed, you need to use the applications to find the bugs and well, it all just takes time.
Next year we will be able to pass out 7.0 and just like 6.0/6.5 are the most usable distros based on Ubuntu, I'm counting on 7.0 being the most usable distro based on Debian.

By the end of October we are probably in the RC stage. For demo purposes, you could safely use an RC!

Nobody is joking simply to be irreverent.
Warren has had a long-standing reputation for uncompromising quality in what he does, and is on record several times saying that SimplyMEPIS isn't going to be hurried along to meet an arbitrary release date.
Most folks around here know that and accept the reality of a quality-first philosophy--and that means that hard release dates are meaningless. This is the world of Linux--and SimplyMEPIS at that--not the world of windoze.
Loosely speaking, the end of October was mentioned as a probable final release window, but circumstances have forced 7.0 into a beta 5 release. (Some of you will recall that 6.5 went all the way into a beta 6 or 7 status before going RC, and final was almost immediately amended with a dot-release.) We all tend to shrug our shoulders and understand that Warren is over-worked and doing his level best...and we look for ways to help him as best we can.
Three RCs are the average, but that's not a number that's set in stone either (I've seen more than 3 more often than I've seen 3 or less in the RC phase.); and there are usually (not always) 15 days between successive pre-release releases.
You're looking at a month and a half for a "normal" RC run, and two months from today to make it to final, if an RC was released right now.
Plan on longer than that, and know that it's for good reasons.

Well, I'll give Warren eight more months to go final, but that's it not one second more!
