hplip works but clutters desktop

HI: I have ab HP Officejet j5750 All-in-One and hplip just installed beautifully and all functions are working. Hooray. However, not knowing any better, I ran the install from my desktop which is now littered with dozens of files. My problem: can I tidy up by moving them all to a directory or will I screw up some path that way; alternatively are there any I can delete. Appreciate any help. Aloha

Sorry, did not realize was in the repository, so downloaded a file from the hplip site which was an install program, called "hplip2.7.9.run", which asked some questions, like which distro and version, then began running a make routine. At the end, works great, but as I said, my whole desktop is covered with files, not sure what, if anything, I can do to clean it up. I guess, now that I know there is a specific binary in synaptic, I could take a chance and remove them all, then if it didi not work, install from the repository. What do you think?

"hplip" is in your repos, so I don't understand why you did not use Synaptic for the install !?!
Are these files the installation files from a tar.gz ?
