bug in the beta 5 version of Mepis 7

I think there is a bug in the beta 5 version of Mepis 7. When I log in I got this message from artsmessage: error while initializing the sound driver, device dev/dsp can't be open, no such file or directory.
I run alsaconf and intalled my sound module and nothing change. When I open Kmix it doesn't work properly. I can't find the mixer to control sounds etc.
Any clues?

Everything worked fine with the version 6.5. How can I add the normal user account to the audio group?

K Menu --> System --> More

K Menu --> System --> More Applications --> KUser
Type in your root password.
Highlight your user name and click on "edit."
Select the "Groups" tab and tick the second check box "audio".
Click the "OK" button, then exit the application.
Log off then login again.
You should then be able to access the KMix particulars.

Not without more info on your hardware. Also did it work when installed or ever? Tough to get a clue without more specifics.
