Problem with Multiple Desktops

hello,
this is very trivial problem, but i'm getting mad of this, so:

all time i run linux, i have xmms and home dir open,
and i have 2 desktops avalible

from time to time, i want to kick some window to the 2nd desktop, in order to have 1st desktop clean (eg. xmms, thunderbird etc.)
but problem is all windows appears on both desktops,
even when i set windows to move to 2nd desktop, it remains na 1st,

i know there is a setting that allow me to have some window only on one desktop
my question is: where is this setting ???

thanks for suggestions

I have noticed in the past

I have noticed in the past that XMMS, will appear on all desktops after the machine is shutdown with XMMS running.

This was several XMMS iterations ago, and was on a machine utilizing 20 virtual desktops on dual monitors, so I don't know if that behaviour will exhibit itself on a 2 VD/single monitor machine--but, don't be surprised if it does.

How's my posting?
