wifi problems and wlassistant
Posts: 50
I've got a wifi card in my laptop which uses the rt2500 driver, and therefore won't work with network-manager. It works fine on my home network with the manual settings in the MEPIS Network Assistant, but I need to be able to connect to my university's network too. I installed kwifimanager, but it doesn't seem to do WPA encryption, which my uni network uses. The MEPIS wiki recommends wlassistant, but when I try to install it in MEPIS 7.0 beta 5, it tells me I need kdelibs-bin, which isn't in the MEPIS or Debian repositories.
Has anyone any recommendations on how I can get roaming networking working with my rt2500 card?
I gave it a go, but no joy.

I gave it a go, but no joy. I set everything up exactly as described, but it failed to detect any networks. It loaded as "No networks detected", and if I pressed "Refresh" changed to "Choose network from:" and then a blank.

You may need to change the preferences from using wext to using either ndiswrapper or ralink legacy.

I've just discovered there's a non-WPA hub I can connect to at my uni, just using iwconfig, so I think I'll stop fiddling before I break something
Thanks for the suggestions, though!
