MP4 to DVD
Posts: 50
I've got some movies downloaded in MP4 format from the Internet Archive that I'd like to convert and burn to DVD so that they can be watched on a normal (non-computer) DVD player. Has anyone any idea what software I'd use and how to go about it? Also, someone told me it could only be done by converting the movies to raw video and re-encoding them, which would probably take more hard drive space than I've got on my old laptop; is this right? I don't want to start and discover I've filled my drive!
Brilliant, thanks for that!

Do I need a different Mepis version?

No, it's working for me on 6.5.
Did you install the dependencies? It needs Mplayer, Mencoder, DVDAuthor, VCDImager, MKisofs, Python 2.4, PyGTK and PyGlade, the names for the last 2 will be a little different so you will need to look at the file descriptions.
What errors are you getting?

My own fault.

Thanks JJ,
I have it working now: my mistake on the previous attempt
was to omit the "log out then log in again" step.
I'm going to miss this forum. Mepislovers will have to
do instead.
Cheers,
David.

Ditto on missing this forum,

Ditto on missing this forum, but if you had posted over there in the first place you would have gotten more and probably faster response.

I responded to this post about 4 hours back and it has disappeared off the face of the earth
Check out a package called DeVeDe. It uses the excellent mencoder backend to produce a full standards compliant video DVD with a simple menu interface for playback on stand-alone DVD players.
The url below has a download link. You'll have to make sure you download and install all the dependencies first through synaptic, and when you're ready, download, unpack and manually install DeVeDe through a simple command using the terminal as root. The installation is so fast, you'll think it failed, but it didn't. Log out of Mepis, log back in and check K-Menu --> Multimedia for a new entry labelled CD/DVD Creator (DeVeDe)
