Microphone in HDA INTEL audio card

Hi all, I have a question about the audiocard
Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller

In mepis 6.5 it works fine: the speaker, the headphones and microphone jack, and also the microphone integrated in the laptop.
I have a debian etch installation where, by default, only the speakers are working (alsa 1.0.13).

Creating the file

/etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel

with inside:

options snd-hda-intel position_fix=2
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

the headphones jack works.
The microphone jack and the integrated microphone are NOT workin Sad

I tried also to upgrate the alsa driver to 1.0.15b3 but was not usefully.

May you be so gentle to tell me how to make the microphone work?
There are many debian users waiting this answer.

Actualy mepis 6.5 is the only distribution that makes my audiocard work.
In the next month I also shuold find time to test mepis 7.

Thnaks.

I have this sound card installed on both my laptop(802801DB) and my desktop(802801G), but as far as I can remember I have never used my head set or microphone while using Linux and have no idea how to test them, I have both "krec" and "krecord" installed and I use both 6.5 and beta5.

I have some extra info, even though I have sound output to my speakers KDE Info Center says audio device, "Subsystem: Intel Corporation: Unknown device 0404" on the desktop and "Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Unknown device 0241" on the laptop.

Microphone on HDA Intel

In KMIX, ensure:
Channel is set to 2ch or 4ch in Switches
Capture is turned on in Input
Microphone red/green lights are on in Input and
the slider is set high
Mic Boost is on in Switches

The most common error is to forget to turn on Capture which is like a master mute for all recording inputs. If Channel is set to 6ch then microphone doesn't work.

Hope this helps
