Hook up B130 to HDTV

I have a Dell Inspiron B130 and i just bought a HDDB15 male/HDDB15 male cable to hook it up to my tv and all it shows is a black screen. How do i get the picture on the monitor to show on the tv?

There is a method to get the external display working described in the Wiki that worked on MEPIS 6 for my Dell Inspiron 700m, and may still work for you:
That solution no longer works for me since the upgrade of Xorg in MEPIS 6.5, and I am still trying to figure out how to get it back.

There should be a function key combination to switch video from the LCD to the external output.
Look at those function keys carefully.
