No sound - Soundblaster Audigy 24 MEPIS 6.5.02 Pentium 4 BIOS set to None (sound)

I have an IBM Netvista with a P4, an additional gig of RAM (1256MB total), a Soundblaster Audigy 24-bit card that autodetects fine under XP Pro and Desktop BSD. I have tried every setting available in MEPIS 6.5.02 setup with the BIOS set to support (on-board?) sound and set to not support it. In short, I have tried every combination of settings and options that I can find. There is no sound through the card at all.

There is an error beep available over the in-case "speaker" during the BIOS portion of bootup but I have heard nothing at all after GRUB starts.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?
