MEPIS 7.0 rc2: More Final Touches

Morgantown, WV, Dec 5, 2007 -- Warren has released rc2 of SimplyMEPIS 7.0. The isos and deltas for the 32 and 64 versions are in the testing directory at the MEPIS subscriber site and public mirrors.

The 7.0 rc2 master image contains package updates from Debian as well as a bug fix and security update of the kernel to version 2.6.22.14. The mepis-config is updated to include a fix for the predefined group memberships for new users, a new kdm theme, and a change to the default package pools to include debian-volatile updates. The mepis-manual, written by community members, is also updated.

By user request, fglrx driver 8.43.2-1 and gtk2-engines 2.12.2-1 are now in the MEPIS 7.0 pool.

When asked about the release schedule, Warren said "As I've said before, there have been delays due to my limited availability the past two months. But now I'm glad to announce that everything is on track for a final release no later than Dec 19."

Continuing, Warren expressed his thanks to MEPIS supporters "I'm grateful to the community support teams, beta testers, and financial contributors who continue to make MEPIS Linux possible."

ISO images are in the 'testing' subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site and at the MEPIS public mirrors. To support the ongoing development of MEPIS, please go to the MEPIS store and become a MEPIS subscriber.
