AntiX 7.5 is Now Available

Morgantown, WV, US and Thessaloniki, Greece, August 22, 2008 -- Anti and MEPIS announce the release of antiX MEPIS 7.5, "Toussaint Louverture"
Built using the MEPIS Linux 7.0 core including the MEPIS 2.6.22 kernel and utilities, along with selected additions from Debian Lenny, this lightweight OS is especially appropriate for older hardware and users who like a very fast and highly configurable system.
New features based on community contributions are led by the antiX Control Centre, which provides a single handy place for managing desktop, system, network, and hardware. Also the well-tested smxi script permits the user to maintain a rolling upgrade of kernels and drivers, with a choice of kernel versions that covers default, Debian Unstable and sidux. Strong community support comes from a revised set of FAQs, the MEPIS Wiki and User's Manual, and the antiX and MepisLovers forums.
Pre-installed window managers Fluxbox and IceWM have been redesigned for better function and aesthetics, and offer superb out-of-the-box usability. Conky and ROX Desktop also come installed and ready to use. All applications have been upgraded to the latest Debian Testing versions, including Abiword 2.6.4 and Iceweasel 3.01.
An upgrade script is available to bring users from antiX MEPIS 7.0 or antiX MEPIS 7.2 to 7.5. Furthermore, antiX MEPIS 7.5 is available in a base configuration, giving users maximum setup flexibility.
AntiX is designed to work on computers with as little as 64 MB RAM and Pentium II or equivalent AMD processors, but not K5/K6 processors. 128 MB RAM is recommended.
About Anti
Anti is a Brit living and working for the last 19 years as a teacher in Thessaloniki the second largest city in Greece. AntiX is remastered from MEPIS to give something back to the community and to work on boxes with 128MB RAM (It does work with 64MB RAM + 128MB swap). The name alludes to the ideas that it is supposed to be like antics (fun) and it is for antiques (ie older boxes). Plus anti is the nickname of the creator and maintainer of AntiX.
