Help with JPilot
Having tried recommendations from other posts here and with no luck, I would like ask for some help. I have a Zire PDA hooked linked via USB. When I hot sync and then DMESG I receive the following:
usbserial.c: Handspring Visor / Treo /Palm, etc converted detected
usbserial.c: Handspring Visor / Treo / Palm, etc converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs.
usbserial c: Handspring.........omitted...........attached to ttyUSB1 (or usb/tts/1 for devfs)
I've deleted /dev/pilot and symlinked both of the usb ports listed to /dev/pilot and still the PDA won't hot sync. I've even tried switching which usb port, but no luck. Any ideas?
Any help greatly appreciated. Once figured out, I can get rid of Windoze all together.

I've posted your original problem to the jpilot forum.
If there are replies I'll send them on.
the usual problems are
another pilot daemon running ; hotplug not detecting.
jpilot uses pilot-link to actually transfer information.
the jpilot forum is at jpilot.org if you wish to join.

Liz, thanks so much, I think I'm making progress in this matter. If I come up with a solution, I'll post it here as I don't think I'm the only one having the problem.

Permissions and ownership for /dev/pilot and /dev/ttyUSB1 are both OK? On
serial connections I've had to change the ownership of /dev/ttyS0 to
rshepard.users to sync my PDAs. /dev/pilot is owned by root.root.

Eureka! Success at last
Hi all,
Here's a website, which along with the comments here,?? helped me get this darn thing working.
http://usbvisor.sourceforge.net/index.php3
Just a couple of comments,
1) In running Evolution/Gnome pilot as root. I haven't tried it as user yet. However, other posts here in the forum indicate that I can change permissions if that's necessary.
2) It seems that only ttyUSB1 is to be used for hot syncing, not ttyUSB0. I had not come across this before.
3) If it is OK with Warren and others, I'm going to put together a detailed howto, along with links to appropriate web sites.
4) My PDA is working with Evolution and Jpilot, but I tried pilot-xfer to debug and get it setup correctly.
Finally, if someone could help me get my Kodak Digital camera working, I could toss Windoze forever.......
Thanks all,
Jim

Judd,
Thanks for the encouragement. I've been at getting my PDA to work for nearly three weeks. Any advice you can give on getting the camera to work would be much appreciated. gphoto2 --auto-detect, detects the camera, but no matter how I try to get to the pictures, digikam, gtkam, konqueror: camera://, I get the dreaded "Cannot Claim USB Device" message.

Bart,
KPILOT won't kill for me either. There's not PID listed in top. I have to re-boot my machine. I hope the folks here can help us find out what's going on.
