Sound problems
hope i'm in the right place....
I have a cmedia inboard ac97 sound chip, on a SiS k7s5a amd mb.
I'm with mepis 2003.10.2.
windows had no trouble playing a virtually unlimited multitude of sounds at once. Mepis seems to handle one sound at a time - alarms won't ring if playing an mp3, games are silent etc.
Problem 2
XMMS and/or sound in general (each had occured several times) occasionally just dies.
Sometimes XMMS pops a message that the sound is misconfigured or another program is blocking it and when that happens sometimes the test sound works, and sometimes it don't.
Generally I'm impressed with mepis (I bought 2 steaks).
Most of the frustrations are with my own ignorance of the os and I hope there's an educational solution to these problems.

Well, I'm now the proud posse
Well, I'm now the proud possesor of a load of alsa stuff. I could probrably learn to play the fiddle and build an entertainment center growing my own crystals by the time i figure out how to compile a sound library - though I'd like to (and reap the benefits), however, alsa cmipci is simply busted, and that's what i got.
The problem is mostly an XMMS problem as if I make the most innocuous of changes in the control-sound and subequently revert to the original setting XMMS is broken for the rest of its life (in my user domain) and seems to need a complete reinstall to ever function again.
real jukebox has yet to make a peep, yet i hardly care.
noatune almost always works, and if it goes out, a reboot or just a relogin usually restores it's (and other sound clients) voice.
praises to the heartiness of noatun, though it can't pull wfmu off the live off the web ( b4 there was linux and free software, there was freeform radio -wfmu still freeform, still free, started about the same time as unix, and not so far away ) .
---------------
the 2003.10.02 mepis disk from mepis installed slightly differently than the other dl of 2003.10.02 - yet the filesize/version-id is the same.
