smouse doesn't work

I tried Mepis, too, and it installed reasonably well on my ancient test
platform. It's cool to have an easy way to install from a live CD. The main
hitch was that it didn't recognize my serial mouse, even after I passed it
the "smouse" option. (Later I hand-edited the X config file.) That wouldn't
be a problem if KDE had a more reasonable, consistent way of mouseless
navigation.
