DSL Problem, help?????
I been having a problem with my dsl(verizon dsl) connection, for some reason is not connecting.
I remember that when I had Lindows 4.0 I had to add this line default-asyncmap to the /etc/ppp/options however I don't find this file in mepis.
Does anybody know where do I add this line to, or what do I have to change, in order to get it working.
I already did. And still no

I already did.
And still no connection. I don't understand what the problem is.
Every time I try to setup dsl(verizon) on a debian based distribution, whether is Lindows, Debian and now Mepis, i get this error.
However when I setup my dsl connection on Slackware 9.0 or Suse 8.2 or Redhat, it goes without a problem.
Thanks anyway.

I use Speed Touch USB in UK and Speedtouch software ver 1.1.
Everything is work fine just n_hdcl.o module is missing in kernel. So it is not possible to connect to ISP without n_hdcl.o. Any help?

n_hdlc.o?

Do you mean n_hdlc.o?
It was my understanding that it is not manditory but that it can improve performance.
But if it is manditory, that could explain the problem. Although, I know that osme users are running adsl, but maybe their systems are different.

I think you'll get it here

Yes n_hdlc.o module in ../char/.
Could you add it to kernel module for next release?
Thanks in advance

I have a similar proble here. After a clean install I see from plog that the default route is not being updated from 192.168.0.10. The route command confirms this. I had eth0 set for dhcp, so it was picking up from the modem. Man pppoe says that eth0 should be up but not configured before pppoe runs, so I set static IP and cleared all the entries. Then after a reboot I can log in as root and the gateway is now the dynamic IP address. Login as a user and I get a hang, it looks like a user does not have the permissions to update the route. Now /etc/network/interfaces is messed up and lo will not start.
Reading man ppd, dsl-provider should say replacedefaultroute not defaultroute

It looks like there is a wide spread problem with pppoe over an ethernet bridge modem (aztech). I tried again from the Mepis livecd and it still would not work. Then I tried Gentoo and had the same problem of the default route not being set.

David,
That sounds a lot like the problem I was having, except ppoe config worked for me on the livecd, but not with the hard drive install. Have you tried manually plugging in the DNS numbers?
This is what worked for me: In the MEPIS CONFIG. CENTER > Other > Config.DNS Choose "Use Static DNS" and plug in your numbers from your provider. Apply and then go back and configure PPOE.

No joy with any Debian based distro, but Slackware 9.1 works. This has to be a permissions problem. PPPD forks into two processes, one of which has suid root as it must change the network settings.

Configuring DSL

You probably need to run pppoeconf.
Unfortunately the link for it in the kmenus is defective--soon to be fixed.
So you would need to run it from a konsole as root, then follow the instructions.
I don't have dsl, so I hopefully someone else will chime in if there's more to be done.
