Looking for books.....yes this question again.

Looking to get a few books to help me in my re-newed endouver into Linux. I picked this Distro for the stability and ease of install (way to easy, thought I did something wrong!). I am figuring I need one for the kernel (2.6.x) and one for the 'main' distro (Debian). I like the look and feel of KDE, so I figure I will need one for it too (3.2 right?). If anyone has some books to recommend, I am all ears.....

I know that most of what I am looking for is not in a current release of Mepis, but I have complete faith in Warren to get the job done.....I have been recommending it to friends and will be getting the 2.6/3.2 release from Warren by buying them.....funny it will be the first OS that I will have purchased. Great project Warren, and know that you are on the forefront of the downfall of MS.

(e)books

books as in dead tree are always behind by definition.
O'Reilly is a publishing house that is complete in its computer coverage. http://www.oreilly.com/
linux books at http://linux.oreilly.com/

they will let you download bits too.
http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/q/linux_chapters
or for the on-line digital library

http://www.safaribooksonline.com/

but the RuteTute is great to download and read.

that is the stuff.....

....that I found doing Google searches.?? I am one of the types that does not do very well reading off of the screen.?? I guess that I could just print out the links (work printers are great), but I am looking more for a "off-line" reference type manual to help expand my horizons.?? how different really is the 2.4.x kernel from the 2.6.x??? I want to be able to be comfortable in??a command line 'power-user' type situation.?? Thanks again for the input,?? Iam just trying to make a concerted effort to lean forward on the enevitable downfall of MS, and I have a great quest for knowledge.??

I`ve checked them O`reilly books out:

from the library. You aren`t kiddin when you say they are complete in coverage. One of them books are full A4 size sheets about 3in deep. Learn more than you ever need to know, great if you wanna be a power user, a little dry for a standard end user. A bit dated like you said, but good enough for learning Command Line, Kernel Internals, Linux Application Programming, etc. That stuff doesn`t change that much anyways. They also got a huge book on Debian/GNU.
