I'm having trouble editing the K menu (and sub-menus).?? I edit the menu with the menu editor and save it (it writes the new settings).?? But whenever I log out and back in, the menu has not changed.?? I'm thinking this is a privilege issue, even though it shouldn't be.?? Any suggestions?

what you need to do is open an editor with root privalages and in the /etc/menu-methods directory there is a file named menu-xdg. Edit that file and look for the following line:
prerun = "rm -rf " prefix() "/*";
you just put this # in front of the letter p of prerun, save and exit.
Now when you make your menu changes, they will stay.

Click on Kicker i.e. that BIG "K" > Settings > Menu Editor and do your changes from there. if you need to have your X apps included in a quick way, do it via the Menu Updating Tool i.e. Kicker > Settings > Menu Updating Tool.
