Thank you for the welcome. I have used Lindows / Linspire since Oct. of 02. I am also an "Insider" and a Lifetime Member. I was wondering if Mepis has the same type of "subscriptions"??? I really like Linspire, but I have been getting bored waiting on the 5.0 beta to come out, so I have been playing
. I have tried Fedora Core 2, and Mepis & Linspire are a LOT better IMO. As I am a newbie to Mepis, what can you tell me about it? I installed the beta 3 (?) version, updated ALL packages using Synaptic, and Mepis "seems" rock solid.

I remember you from Linspire, the guy with the funny avatar ( if I remember correctly, it was a samuray swinging a katana, right? ).
So far, we don't have subscriptions here, but everybody is welcome to support MEPIS either by advocating about it in other forums, financially ( buying registrations, downloads or cds from it ), but that's not all, you can also help aswering questions in these forums.
Glad to see you around, buddy.

Wow---Thanks for remembering me. Yes, my avatar was the ninga beating the evil "spyware and Micro$oft" with a sword
What was your forum name at Linspire? I really like Mepis, but I also like Linspire, too.
Could you give me some advice on the best purchase option for Mepis? I TRULY don't mind paying money for GREAT products. I am not one of those "Linux should be free" advocates. I would be glad to stick around and help out in these forums. What areas are needed most? My specialty is helping people install the OS and some networking. I am an advanced user in MS products, and OS's, but relatively new to Linux.
Once again, a very sincere and heart felt thanks for such a warm welcome. I guess I could use my same avatar here, too.

I was very close to remember that avatar, but not so close as I thought, 'cause samurays were from Japan, while ninjas were mainly Chinese, but that isn't so revelant here, the important thing's you're now trying MEPIS & hopefully you'll keep using for a long time., right?.
I'm not a "Linux should always be free" type of person either, mainly "cause I understand that developers are persons too & they also have families & bills to pay, so the best I can do if I'm using the products they created, is paying some money to help them.
In Lispire, I don't have only one forum ( I'm not a mod there ), but I'm trying to help practically everywhere. Something very similar to what I do here
I think you can use the very same avatar ( if you still like it, of course ).
If you're interested in helping out, you're very welcome. These forums are still fresh & wwe need lots of help. So, please, put away your sword (you don't want to chop people, right?) & start answering queestions.

I tried to load my avatar, but got an error message saying it needs to be no more than 85x85, which Linspire's maximums were 80x80, and it worked fine there, so I don't know what the deal is. I was wondering what name you used over at Linspire's forums?? The reason I even tried Mepis is that I was bored waiting for the beta release of Linspire 5.0. I downloaded Fedora Core 2, also. While I have used Red Hat for awhile, and had 9.0 installed, I figured I would try it. Long story short---Not worth the download IMO. It couldn't find my home network at all, and while Red Hat did, with no problems, I just couldn't figure it out  It was not worth the trouble.
While I have no intentions of abandoning Linspire, I do plan to use and explore Mepis a great deal. I am also going to buy it, in order to help support it. What, in your opinion, is the best deal?? I truly want to buy it soon. I am IMPRESSED so far with Mepis, and I really would like to stick around these forums to help out. Who knows, maybe someone will ask me to be a moderator here
, which I would be happy to do. I posted under the same forum name in Linspire as I have here, so anyone could look and see.

I've used different names over the years ( not 'cause I want to hide from anyone, I'm not the Evil Dr. & his multiple clones either ), but just for fun & I've changed avatars & sigs too, for the same reason.
You mention your avatar's too big for MEPIS, well, to fix that you probably may use some program to alter the avatar a bit ( I think the GIMP can do it) or if not, go web hunting for a new one.
There are several options to buy MEPIS in the initial page & also the link appears at the heading of each page. Some people buy downloads, some others, spend a few dollars in registrations or cds. Each option's equally important.
