Hello everyone,
I'm an average linux user and I recenlty entered in the Debian world; after many tests, I decide to switch to Mepis.
My only concern is about hardware; linux (in general) has a quite good hardware support, but I'm afraid about desktop pc's with integrated peripherals (audio, video, ethernet).
I will probably buy an Ibm or a Hp pc; how do I make sure my hardware will be recognized? Would you tell me some resources? And what about Mepis?

Thanks in advance,
??badmouth

Live Cd

Take your CDs to the shop, boot from them and then you'll know. Any vendor who won't let you boot from it, you can leave the shop.

Onboard

I use my onboard/intregrated audio and ethernet with Mepis. I have onboard video too but I don't use it because I bought a better video card than the intregrated one and wanted to use it.

My onboard audio is Via 8235 and my ethernet is used by the via rhine module/driver in Linux. So both work fine for me in Mepis. The reason I love Mepis is because it recognizes and setups correctly, every bit of my hardware including the intregrated ones.

When you use the livecd before installing, you need to check all your hardware and make sure it is working right. If something isn't, come here and ask for help in getting it working. Most likely someone here has hardware either the same or similar.
